ENUGU—Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State through the governing council of the college has entered a partnership that will see the German International Training and Support, ITS, develop technological and vocational syllabus for the Enugu State College of Education Technical, ESCET, in a bid to shore-up the technological base of the institution to produce teachers of sound technological disposition.

According to Ugwuanyi said his administration will stop at nothing to ensure that teachers who transfer technological and vocational knowledge to students from primary to tertiary levels of education have access to the 21st century learning and teaching aid to promote self reliance among the products of the institutions in the state.

While welcoming the delegation from German ITS at the college auditorium, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Uchenna Eze, explained that government was bent on producing the necessary manpower to enhance economic activities through robust technical education.

“Once ESCET produces teachers that are technically competent,our wards starting from primary to tertiary level of education will be at a vantage position to learn from the repository of their teachers. Theoretical knowledge transfer in a Technical College as this cannot work.

“So, we have to put in place the practical plank that will impact the hand-ons experience in our teachers for onwards transfer to students at all level. That is why we are moving to ensure that all primary and secondary schools in the 472 communities have farms,” the commissioner said.

“The idea is to shift from a consuming state to a producing state especially now that the country is suffering the oil glut that crashed prices in the international market. The problem of education is not funding but rather, setting our priorities right” Commissioner Eze explained.
