Rivers set for re-run elections: Tension in the air

THE rerun election is to hold in the three senatorial districts in Rivers state.They are Rivers East, West and South East. It will also be conducted in 12 federal constituencies and 22 state constituencies. Invariably it is a state-wide election as it will hold in the 23 local government areas with each having 319 wards.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the election will be conducted in 5, 942 polling units with 24, 930 adhoc staff drawn from the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC , lecturers from three  federal tertiary institutions. The electoral body also said there will 379 Collation Officers and 37 Returning officers recruited from the federal schools for the exercise.

Police intensify patrol of PH ahead of Saturday

Deputy Inspector General of Police, in-charge of Operations, DIG Sotonye Wakama revealed the presence of 16 units of heavily armed anti riot policemen among the arrangements being put in place to fortify security in the state before, during and immediately after the elections.

Port-Harcourt, the capital city is presently almost being saturated with the presence of security men. Police vehicles have been driving in convoys, showing might all over the state capital and adjourning local government areas.

The Police is expected to work with the Navy to lock down the waterways during the election.

2,000 men have also been deployed to strengthen the force of 5000 men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSDC in the state.
