NCEF disagrees with US report
THE National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has disagreed with certain aspects of the 2014 International Religious Freedom Report, IRF, of the United States of America, arguing that the portion is not a true reflection of the actual situation in Nigeria.
MARKED FOR DEATH: Village elder beheaded, Chief Priest shot dead
There is tension in Aruogba in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, following the killing of the Chief Priest (Ohen-Ogba) of the community, 81-year-old Pa Clifford Omosomwan, by unknown assailants, penultimate Thursday. The situation is reminiscent of the January 2015 incident which saw the assistant head of the community, Pa Goodluck Uwumahongie, in his 80s, being beheaded during a crisis in the community over the sale of land. Over 10 other members of the community also lost their lives to the 2015 incident, while several houses, vehicles and motor cycles were set ablaze.
Nigeria Police partners Binggo, UAC Subsidiary for K-9 Dogs
Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, said at the weekend that the Nigeria Police Force has entered into a partnership with Binggo, a subsidiary of UAC Nigeria, for the production of feeding materials for specially-trained Police dogs to be used in fighting terrorism and other forms of security challenges in the country.
Furore over extension of port concession period
THE extension of the concession granted to six port terminal operators is presently generating controversy among stakeholders in the maritime industry, with many alleging that the extension did not follow due process. Confirming the extension, General Manager in charge of Public Affairs department of the Nigerian Ports Authority, (NPA), Captain Ihenacho Ebubeogu, said that ENL Tin-Can Island Container Port, (TICT), Josephdam, Port and Cargo, African Maritime Services, Port Terminal Operators Limited, (PTOL) and Ecomarine Marine in Calabar in Cross River State have been granted extension of their concession for another five years each.
Gov. Bello, demolished Lokoja roundabouts and rumour of amulets in Govt. House
Residents of Lokoja, Kogi State capital, woke up, penultimate Friday and Saturday, to discover that major roundabouts in the city had been destroyed overnight by bulldozers sponsored by Governor Yahaya Bello. First to be bulldozed was the Lugard Roundabout right in front of Government House. Other roundabouts also demolished are Kogi Circle Roundabout, NTA Roundabout, Paparanda Square, Welcome to Lokoja Roundabout, Ganaga Roundabout and Zone 8 Junction, Farek Roundabout.
