Ogun workers tear-gassed during protests

ABEOKUTA— Pandemonium broke out at Ogun State Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, yester-day, when some policemen fired tear gas at the workers during a peaceful protest.

The workers and state leaders of Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, ran for safety when they were attacked by the policemen attached to the Governor’s Office.

Vanguard gathered that the policemen, who arrested two of the protesters, fired tear gas canisters while the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Taiwo Adeoluwa, was with the workers for discussion.

The union leaders had called for a strike action over alleged non-payment of the deductions from the workers’ salaries by the government, vowing not to resume work until the deductions were remitted.
