Enugu – A retired Permanent Secretary, Mr John Abugu, who was kidnapped while returning from a funeral ceremony of his cousin, Emeka Mamah, in Enugu Ezike, Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State weekend has been freed by his abductors.
Abugu, a lawyer who hails from Aji, Enugu Ezike was released yesterday morning at Ezagu area of the state where he was held in an unknown location for five days.
However, his relation, Mr Chima Adonu, who was said to have taken an undisclosed amount of cash to the kidnappers in their den was said to have been shot severally on one of his legs and hands respectively.
Adonu who was said to have mobilised and taken funds to the kidnappers as demanded was later admitted at a hospital in Ezagu, before policemen rushed him to Enugu for better treatment.
Police sources confirmed the release of Mr Abugu as well as the shooting of his relation, who is said to be a bank worker.
It was not immediately known whether the police was informed about the ransom which was taken to the kidnappers’ den.
