Ibadan—Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said he intends to raise the internally generated revenue of the state from paltry N1.5 billion to N5bn.
During a recent visit of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to the state, the governor asked for their support in raising the IGR of the state.
Ajimobi said, “More importantly, we need your support in our state in the area of IGR in terms of presenting propositions that will assist us in our internally generated revenue drive.”
According to him, such partnership will assist his government in meeting its financial needs, especially as regards payment of salaries as well as execution of other development projects that will have direct impact on the people.
Also speaking with Vanguard through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, the governor said the full roll out of the IGR was yet to commence.
He was optimistic that when the generation of the IGR begins in earnest in few weeks, the state will overcome some of its teething financial challenges.’’
When Vanguard called the State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Waheed Olojede, he said there are disparities in the payment o f workers’ salaries.
