ABA—AHEAD of the March 5 rescheduled INEC re-run election for Abia North Senatorial zone of Abia State, a group known as Mandate For Good Governance in Abia North, MAGGN, has called on the electorate in the zone to support the candidature of Nnenna Lancaster-Okoro of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for a change that would transform and connect the zone to centre politics.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Orji Eke Udensi and Secretary, Mark Aroh respectively and made available to newsmen after their meeting yesterday, at Ohafia, the group said the APC candidate is outstanding in all ramifications and stands a better chance of effective representation of the zone if voted for.
It read further: “Abia North Senatorial zone has suffered under the hands of inept politicians whose only achievements have been to enrich their pockets while the zone continued to wallow in abject poverty and under development since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in the country.”
“ We had a Governor from this zone and many others who have represented the zone at the federal level and National Assembly and currently jostling to go back to the national Assembly but the question we are asking is what have they attracted to the zone in the last sixteen years that they have represented the zone” MAGGN said.
According to them “there is no federal presence in the zone. All the federal roads in the zone are death traps, the hospitals even a state hospital we had here in Ohafia has been taken over by rodents under the watchful eyes of a former governor who is from the zone, there is unemployment and our people are suffering and we have nothing to show under our so called past leaders”
“We don’t want our people to be deceived again by this money bags whose stock in trade is to give our people peanuts from their alleged ill gotten wealth after which they would abandon them in penury “ MAGGN said.
“ We have critically assessed all the candidates currently jostling to represent the zone at the senate come next month and we have come to the conclusion that the APC candidate who has an impeccable pedigree possesses a better credential with the interest of the people at heart and would make a better senator for our people” they said.
They called on the people of the zone to be vigilant to vote for the APC candidate for a better Abia North zone that would be linked to the center for the positive development of the people in the zone while they appealed to INEC not to compromise the wishes of the electorate in the zone and avoid the repetition of the mistakes that characterized the last cancelled exercise.
