Following the expiration of the tenure of 17 council area chairmen in Enugu State on January 4,Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Thursday evening, swore in Caretaker Chairmen to run the affairs of the third tier pending the conduct of local government election later this year. He equally gave a charge for them to live within their respective council areas.
It would be recalled that Ugwuanyi had summoned an expanded stakeholders meeting last December, where he sought their approval to constitute Caretaker Committee given the on-going local government staff audit.
The request,however,received wide acceptance as Deputy Senate Presi-dent,Ike Ekweremadu,Enugu-West senatorial constituency,Prof. Barth Nnaji,Enugu-East senatorial constituency and Chief Nnia Nwodo,Enugu-North senatorial constituency led other stakeholders from the three senatorial zones in the state,to approve the setting up of a Caretaker Committee.
The governor also directed all the newly inaugurated Local Government
Caretaker committee Chairmen and their deputies to be prudent on fiscal matters.
