The inaugural edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is looking good as close to one hundred and fifty local and international elite runners have signed on for the race.
As at close of work on Sunday, over twenty thousand runners have submitted their entry forms, while half of that number have collected their running numbers, race day information and other materials.
Yusuf Alli, General Manager, Lagos City Marathon organizer of the 2016 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon said the response is good.
“I am delighted about the response of local and international elite runners. High Altitude Athletics Club of Jos alone is sending about 30 elites runners, marathoners are coming from all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
We have athletes from Kaduna, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Ilorin, and other parts of Nigeria. As at Sunday about sixty elite athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, Uganda, India, Cameroon, Asia,
Europe and America have entered for the race, this is very good ,” he said. Alli said the response of fun runners, those running for one charity or the other, and even volunteers have been very encouraging.
“The essence of the Lagos City Marathon is to encourage the culture of running, keep fit and exercise, this will breed healthier citizens, and better workforce.
