ABUJA: The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Dambatta, says the Commission had no intention whatsoever to join issues with the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on the controversial 700MHz spectrum sales by the NBC.

Dambatta made the assertion on Friday during a courtesy visit to NCC by the Secretary General of African Telecommunications Union (ATU), Mr. Adduoulkarim Soumaila in Abuja.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Broadcasting Commissions (NBC) had been in engaged in a dispute since late last year over the sale of the 700MHz spectrum sales to the telecom giant, MTN.

The development had led to some cold war between the two gladiators over the sales of 700 megahertz spectrum by the NBC.
The EVC said NCC had decided not to join issues with the NBC since both agencies are government owned and expressed confidence that the statutory agency, Nigerian Frequency Management Council (NFMC), haven waded into the matter would do justice to the dispute.

‘‘We are not going to join issues with the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, an agency of government.
‘‘There is this inter-agency mediation mechanism at the level of Nigerian Frequency Management Council (NFMC).
‘‘I am happy today to report that the Frequency Council has indeed intervened on the 700GHz spectrum dispute.

‘‘The public will be informed at the right time about its resolution on the matter.
‘‘I do not want to preempt the resolution of the Frequency Management Council on this matter but we are confident that it will do justice to it.’’

On poor quality of service, the EVC attributed the poor quality service in the country on what he called technical faults and promised to engage the ATU in order to explore their technical expertise finding a lasting solution to the menace.
