15-yr-old dies rescuing siblings from killer-truck

ABEOKUTA—Tragedy struck, Tuesday, in Ogun State as a truck belonging to a construction company in Abeokuta crushed four siblings, leaving one of them dead.

An eyewitness said Imisioluwa, aged 15, lost his life when he was trying to pull his younger ones away from the truck, but fell and was crushed.

The incident occurred on Oke-Ijeun Road in Abeokuta, which was undergoing construction by the state government, ahead of the 40 years anniversary of the state.

The survivors, said to be in critical condition, are Ayomipo, Ayomide and Nifemi.

It was gathered that the siblings were on their way back from school around 4p.m. and were knocked down while attempting to cross the road. It was further gathered that the driver was drunk and drove against traffic.

Shortly after the accident, the truck, which was abandoned by the driver, was vandalized by a mob that attempted to set the truck ablaze but for the intervention of policemen.

State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Olamilekan Adegbite, who visited the scene went away with the father of the affected children.

The victims were rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, while the deceased was taken to the morgue and later buried.
