The Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Stella Odua, Tuesday, had her election to the 8th Senate which she won by over 30, 000 votes, upheld after an appeal against her victory was thrown out by the Court of Appeal in Enugu.
Oduah, a former Minister of Aviation under the past administration, had been dragged to the election tribunal seating in Awka, the State capital in October, by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance , APGA, Dubem Obaze, who cited electoral malpractice in the elections which held in March.
Oduah and her party the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, had good reason to celebrate, after witnessing the Appeal Court throw out another Senator voted under the party’s umbrella, Uche Ekwunife.
Before Ekwunife’s loss, former Senate President, David Mark, had his own victory nullified by the Appeal Court.
Oduah’s election was an opportunity for the Anambra people to show their political strength. As reports indicate that there was a big consensus behind the former Aviation Minister, with votes cutting across partisan, religious and ethnic lines.
Her election was famously dubbed “The People’s Project” by her constituency.
As the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women affairs, Oduah will now be able to continue her efforts in ensuring that women get the right representation in government, get appointed to influential positions, and contribute their quota to Nigeria’s development.
