As Nigeria prepare for their all important semi-final clash at the CAF U-23 African Cup of Nations, striker Oghenekaro Etebo has predicted that the Olympic Eagles would beat Senegal and secure qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The hosts are yet to lose a match in the tournament, but the Warri Wolves star player has assured that victory was achievable, when the two teams clash at the Leopold Senghor Stadium in Dakar tomorrow.
Nigeria finished behind Algeria in group B after winning one and drawing two games. Etebo who scored two goals from the spot, in their 2-2 draw against Egypt said:”They are the host team and they will be tough but that doesn’t mean we cannot win.
“We want to win the game so we can qualify for the Olympic Games and we know it will be a good game but they also know Nigeria will be tough for them.”
A win will guarantee Nigeria a place in the Olympics. Otherwise their fate will be determined in the third place match and may stretch to the play-off, if they fail to win that match as well.
However, Senegal defender Adama Nbengue said yesterday that they too were working so hard to beat Nigeria to secure the Olympic ticket and also qualify for the final.
“The fans have been so brilliant as they have been all through. We need them to be behind us so as to win the tournament for them and the entire country.”
