Jonathan and Dickson
By Samuel Oyadongha
As the political gladiators make last minute moves to sway the undecided voters in the Saturday polls, the PDP candidate, Hon Seriake Dickson is hoping to get the votes of the people of Toru-Ebeni, Agorogbene, Ogobiri in Sagbama council area and communities along the Otuan axis in Southern Ijaw council area following the commissioning of the long abandoned Toru-Ebeni/Ogobiri bridge by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The bridge project was conceived by the DSP Alamieyeseigha administration, but started by Jonathan and abandoned by the Sylva administration which ruled for five years.
The newly commissioned bridge is expected to open up the communities in the hinterland and link the west and central senatorial districts of the state as well as boost commercial activities in the senatorial zones.
Jonathan, who inaugurated the bridge, recalled that the late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a former governor of the state, conceived the idea of the project, but he (Jonathan) started the construction, which the present administration completed.
He said his administration saw the project as a priority, which would alleviate the sufferings of the people living in the riverine communities of Bayelsa Central and West as well as helping people of Ekeremor, who will no longer travel through Bomadi in the Delta state to their communities.
The Acting National Chairman of the PDP Uche Secondus, described the quality of the bridge as comparable to the best anywhere in the world.
He lauded Dickson, saying he has achieved a lot for the state in terms of high quality projects which, he said, would attract massive votes for his re-election.
