BENIN—EDO State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has denied media report that a governorship aspirant in the party diverted rice meant for the state by the campaign organisation of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
It described the report as not only false and misleading, but also sponsored and fabricated to smear the image of the party in the state.
The report had alleged that the unnamed PDP governorship aspirant super-imposed his own picture on that of former President Jonathan and shared the rice to his supporters as Christmas gifts.
Edo State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, who briefed newsmen in Benin, yesterday, said: “The attention of Edo State PDP has been drawn to the false and fabricated story sponsored by agents of darkness in Edo State regarding the distribution of rice by one of our governorship aspirants to party members and loyalists across the state.
“Edo PDP will not be distracted by sponsored divisive antics. We urge all our aspirants to continue the good work they are doing. We will like to confirm that we have investigated the report and are pleased to tell our party members that the story is not only false, it is also sponsored and fabricated.
“We wish to tell those that thrive on lies, deceit and petty rumours that there is no room for them in our party. We advise our party members to be wary of paid agents that are bent on destabilizing our very cohesive party.”
