The committee of branch Chairmen and Secretaries of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Anambra State, yesterday in Obeledu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state urged the state government and the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, to call off the 10 months strike action, which has paralysed court activities in the state.
In a resolution passed at the meeting convened by the Vice-Chairman of Pan African Lawyers Union, PALU, Mr Emeka Obegolu at which all the seven branches of NBA in Anambra State and stakeholders were represented, the meeting discussed the state of the legal profession in the state with particular reference to the ongoing strike by JUSUN that has paralysed courts in the State for almost one year.
The meeting commended the efforts of parties in all the negotiated agreements reached so far to resolve the matter, noting that the outstanding issues were minimal, hence urged all parties to resolve them.
The NBA also regretted the sufferings of all awaiting trial inmates and litigants in the Anambra State and therefore, called on the state government and JUSUN to call off the strike and open the courts in the interest of all residents of Anambra State.
The association also resolved to ensure that each party obeys and fulfils its obligations under the agreement in the overall interest of the state.
