The Governor-Elect of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Bello has set up a transition committee, charging them to chart the course for the smooth take-off of his administration. The ceremony which was witnessed by party leaders and technocrats was held Thursday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja.
Alh. Isah Shaibu and Hon. Edward Onoja were appointed to serve as Chairman and Secretary of the Committee respectively.
Bello used the opportunity presented by the occasion to thank the electorate for supporting his election, assuring them that he will live up to the expectations of the Kogi people.
“While welcoming you to this occasion, may I congratulate you all for being found worthy to serve as members of this very important  committee. The criteria for selecting you was based on your track record and proven capacity to perform. I have no doubt whatsoever that you will live up to this expectation.

“As we are all aware, Kogi State was created in August 1991, precisely 24 years ago. Within this period, the state has passed through numerous experiences which I need not mention here, as I believe you will consider in the process of discharging your mandate.  “You will agree with me that Kogi State is endowed with abundant natural and human resources which places it at an advantage, in addition to being in close proximity to the Federal Capital Territory.

With the presence of Obajana Cement Factory, Ajaokuta Steel Company  as well as Itakpe Iron Ore, our state could not have been asking for more as far as industrial and economic aspirations are concerned. “All these natural endowments ordinarily should place our dear state among the top five in the federation, but sadly, due to the leadership gap we have experienced over the years, the reverse is the case.

Painfully, our social and infrastructural development  indices leave much to be desired though we are ranked 18th in terms of monthly federal allocations. This, to say the very least, is unacceptable. “Against this background, we must collectively take full advantage of the blessings bestowed on us rededicating ourselves to surmounting the challenges ahead.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I expect this committee to work diligently in order to come up with solid framework that will enable our new Administration take-off effectively. You will need to think outside the box by coming up with workable and realistic plans for the smooth take-off of the  incoming Administration bearing in mind the economic realities of today.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, In line with the policy thrust of the current Administration, I will like you to address as a priority key areas including education, health, job creation and youth empowerment, agriculture and rural development, solid mineral and infrastructural development as well as civil service reforms for efficiency and enhanced productivity with a corresponding reward for service.

All of these can only be achieved by looking inwards with the objective of improving our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drive within the shortest possible time. “Finally, I will like to assure you that my Administration will be fully committed to the responsibilities that God has placed on our shoulders.

I have no doubt that, given your antecedents, you will no doubt deliver on this all important-assignment. You can be rest assured of my firm commitment to the realization of our collective vision”.
