A GROUP, Deltans United Against Cultism, has faulted what it described as the “perplexing and inexplicable ban” recently placed on a book against campus cults, entitled, Anchor, authored by anti-cult campaigner and author, Austine Onodarho, by the authorities of the Delta State University, Delsu, Abraka.
Addressing newsmen, in Warri, the group through its coordinator, Mr. Ambrose Etaghene, wondered what could “possibly have warranted the banning of a celebrated book on anti-cultism that was approved for tertiary institutions by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Delta State Ministry of Education, the Senate Committee on Education, the Nigerian Police Force and the authorities of Delsu,” when” according to him, “certain undesirable elements in the varrsity are noted for cult-related activities which the varsity itself, has been trying to curb.”
Wondering how the banning of a book, which exposes the “dark and clandestine world of campus cults, prostitution and indecent dressing can possibly aid the effort to eradicate cults in our universities,” the group insisted that “what we suspect is that certain unsavoury interest groups are determined to perpetuate cultism by banning this book.
“We urge the Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretomode, to immediately reverse the ban.”
