Agent in court over alleged N4.1m theft

Lagos—A 35-year-old clearing agent, Isiaka Muritala, who was alleged to have obtained the sum of N4.1million from his customer under the pretext of clearing two cars for him, was, yesterday, arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Muritala, who resides at Ketu area of Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kenneth Asibor told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on July 16, 2015, during working hours in Lagos.

He said that the defendant obtained the sum of N1.3 million from one Martins Eruga, under the guise of clearing two vehicles, a Toyota SUVs, which he failed to do.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant delivered one of the vehicles to  Mr Eruga but stole the Toyota Rav 4, which is valued at N2. 8 million.

He further stated that the total amount allegedly stolen was N4. 1 million.

Magistrate, Mrs. Abimbola  Komolafe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one must be a blood relation of the defendant.
