CALABAR—FORTY-SIX thousand children drop out of primary and secondary schools in Cross River State every year owing to lack of funds to continue their education
This figure was reeled out by The Bridge Leadership Foundation, TBLF, a nongovernmental organisation founded by former governor of the state, Mr Liyel Imoke, while presenting scholarships to 40 students of public secondary schools in the state.
Mrs Ewa Fasina, Executive Secretary of TBLF, who gave the figures, said a survey conducted by the foundation in conjunction with the state Ministry of Education revealed that thousands of pupils and students in primary and secondary schools in the state drop out of school every year because of their parents’ inability to pay for their education.
