Jalingo— Following last Saturday’s tribunal judgement that sacked the governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, women across the 16 local government areas of the state have taken over the streets of Jalingo in protest against the judgement.

The women, under the leadership of Mrs. Fati Hassan, demonstrated round the streets of Jalingo with leaves, chanting solidarity songs.

Addressing the women at Sani Abubakar Road in Jalingo, former deputy national women leader of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mrs Hauwa Andetu, said the judgement was a robbery, adding that lives were already being lost in the state since the pronouncement of the judgement last Saturday.

According to her, the judgement is not a reflection of wishes of majority of people in the state.

She said: “We don’t want outbreak of violence in Taraba State, the verdict portends doom, our sons are dying, we are tired of losing our husbands through injustices.

“Why was Ishaku accepted in the first place at INEC? Why are they giving the mandate of the person we elected to someone who did not win our votes? This is injustice.

“The primary election that produced the governor in Abuja was peaceful and it was not only Taraba State that conducted their primaries in Abuja. What happened to the other states?

“We are calling on the chief judge of the federation to constitute another panel to investigate the three judges that constitute Taraba Governorship Election Tribunal.

“We demand clear justice over the unjust Saturday judgment. It was Darius Ishaku we voted for, not Aisha Alhassan. All of us here are women from Taraba State, anybody can trace our roots down to our local government areas. We are not hired women like the ones on the streets of Abuja.

“We are ready to fight for our rights, even if our husbands have gone to sleep over the issue. It is our children and our husbands that are being killed any time injustice was done. We demand that the Appeal Court should be just and return the mandate to the rightful owner.”
