LAGOS—Lagos chapter of National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ protested at the Lagos Assembly yesterday over incessant rape and violence in the state.

Leading the group, the chairman, Dupe Olaoye Oshinkolu said, the protest was followed by incessant rape cases and violence, adding that the rate at which rape is being committed in the state is alarming.

Seeking the support of the House on the amendment of the violence against persons Act 2015 that seeks prohibition of all forms of violence against the people regardless of age, sex and religion, she said, it is the only way to curb rape incidences in the state.

Addressing the protesters, Funmilayo Tejuoso representing Mushin Constituency I, assured the protesters that the House would look into their complaint and address it accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has slated next week, Tuesday, November 10, to hold hall wall meeting in all the 40 constituencies in the state simultaneously.
