2016: Edo APC chair assures on fairness in primaries

By Simon Ebegbulem

BENIN—AHEAD of the 2016 governorship election in Edo State, the state chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Anselm Ojezua, has warned party leaders to desist from creating tension in the party as a result of their loyalty to any of the governorship aspirants of the party, assuring that the party will be fair to all aspirants during the primaries.

He spoke at Iguobazuwa, Ovia South-West Local Government Area of the state, where the party honoured Mr Osazee Akpasi, a chieftain of the party, for his philanthropic gestures in the community.

Mr Akpasi urged APC youths to shun thuggery and other vices capable of tarnishing the image of the party ahead the 2016 governorship election.

Meanwhile, Ojezua, frowned at attempts by some party leaders to factionalize the party particularly at the local government level, due to their interest in particular governorship aspirants, warning that such attitude weakens the party’s structure.

According to him, “This practice weakens the party structure and does not allow the party harvest maximum benefits during elections. We can’t afford to become complacent but must refrain from going to sleep. Our success or failure in future elections in the state depends on how well we are able to manage our primaries.

“We are going to conduct primaries for all our aspirants and I want to say that all the aspirants are credible and qualified, but how well we are able to manage these materials to our advantage depends on how well we put our house in order. For us as a party, we are going to ensure that we conduct free, fair and credible primaries for our aspirants so that we won’t experience any rancour,” he stated.
