Akure—Ondo State  workers yesterday suspended their two-day-old warning strike over non payment of their outstanding salaries and deductions  following the intervention of the national secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC.

Addressing newsmen after a meeting  lasting for over four hours in Akure, the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, Sunday Adeleye, asked workers to resume work today.

Adeleye said government should by Wednesday next week pay all outstanding salaries and deductions up to last month.

He also denied that the two-day warning strike was an agreement by all unions and was not politically-motivated  as been rumoured, adding that what happened in the last two days was a family affair that would be resolved.  He said the unions were pushed to the wall.

“Following the intervention of our national secretariat and the forum of permanent secretaries in the state and leaders of other unions, we have decided to suspend the two day warning strike,’’ he said.
