Ibadan—THE Oyo State House of Assembly has asked the state police command to provide protection for students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso who on Monday protested incessant robbery attacks and raping of their female colleagues.
The students had complained that their valuables were carted away by the hoodlums who laid siege on their various hostels in the town.
The legislative arm through its Speaker, Mr. Michael Adeyemo said it had received several phone calls and text messages on security situation in the ancient town.
A lawmaker, Mrs. Bimbo Olawunmi Oladeji who represents Ogbomoso North brought the matter before the House and called on the legislators to do something urgent about the security situation in Ogbomoso.
She said; “There is general insecurity in Ogbomoso. In recent times,there have been cases of armed robbery attacks and harassment of LAUTECH students. I will urge the house to look into the issue.”
In the same vein, a report by the ad-hoc committee constituted to broker peace among factions of the state chapter of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, was presented.
