Why Patience turned to Dickson

Why Patience turned to Dickson

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor

Governor Seriake Dickson is today unfolding himself as he launches his bid for a second term as governor of Bayelsa State. Today’s outing is expected to be graced by the low and mighty in Bayelsa State including the immediate past president of the country, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience.

The presence of the former president and his wife will no doubt give a lie to insinuations that the couple is opposed to his re-election. There is no doubt that there were issues especially between the camp of Mrs. Patience Jonathan and that of the governor, a development that forced Mrs. Jonathan to resign her job as a permanent secretary in the state’s civil service. She was known to have erected a political structure that commanded wide following in the state and was believed to have been prompting one of her core loyalists to contend with Dickson for the governorship.

However, out of office and with reality dawning on her it is believed that Mrs. Jonathan has seen reason that it would be foolish for her to further aggravate the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP which could lead weaken it ahead of the election and lead to the emergence of a candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC as governor of the state.

Given the fact that she has no more succour in Abuja with the APC in control of the Federal Government and with the PDP controlling her husband’s home, Dame Patience it was believed thought it wise that it was better to go with what she has now than the angel that she does not know.
