UBTH brace for 1st Ladies Open

UBTH brace for 1st Ladies Open

After some six years in existence, the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) is all set to host its first ever Ladies Open Golf Championship.

The tourney scheduled to hold on September 26 and 27 will be playing host to some 400 golfers from across the nation. And those coming are already bracing up for a real golf challenge since the vast UBTH course is not only perilously long but it could indeed be treacherous since it could readily punish any miscued shot.

“We have a great course here”, says the Lady Captain of the club, Dr. Monica Obaedo. “The course is not only pretty but very challenging. Our Greens are solid and could passionately be compared to Greens of some ‘heavyweight’ Clubs in the country.

But we have a little problem here. We have not been able to showcase our course to a whole lot of Nigerians. This is reason I am pleased this Ladies Open is coming at this time. I mean close to 500 golfers will visit and see our somewhat ‘hidden treasure’.

Obaedo disclosed that the Ladies Open would be thrilling since the ever sports loving Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and the Chief Medical Director of the UBTH, Professor Ibadin, shall be backing the event all the way.

The Lady Captain equally disclosed that the Spirits behind course, Professors Eugene Okpere and Waziri Erameh promised that visiting golfers would witness a show that would linger in minds of ‘Golfers All’ for a long while.

Hear Obaedo: “We   are proud to mention that we have lots of dignatories from outside Edo who are backing this event. Among them are Retired AVM Toni Adokwu, Commodore CD Dola, Major General Okoro and the amiable Honorable Dan Mayuku. I must emphasize here that the brand new Captain of the UBTH Golf Club, Brigadier- General Jidda is especially prepared to welcome male golfers to join the Ladies in this historical tourney”.
