Man arraigned over alleged N12m theft

Lagos—An auto mechanic, Paul Johnson, 29, has been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court for stealing a truck worth N12 million, property of China Railway Construction Company.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence on June 20, 2015, at China Railway Construction Company, Ebute-Metta West, Lagos.

The accused person is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

However, it was reported that Johnson was given the truck to repair and allegedly conspired with others now at large, who were supposed to pick up a mobile container at Apapa Wharf

They allegedly changed direction towards Lagos-Ibadan express way instead of Apapa.

It was discovered that the defendant sold the truck in Ibadan, where he was eventually arrested.

The charge read: “That you Paul Johnson with others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did steal one Howo Truck with Registration Number LA 265 FZE valued N12,000,000.00 (Twelve million naira) property of China Railway Construction Company and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 7 and 10 of the criminal law vol. 44 laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.’’
