Worried by the continued crisis rocking the Lagos State University, LASU, the State House of Assembly yesterday approved five-year single tenure for Vice Chancellor of the institution.
When the new approval is introduced, it would nullify the four-year two-term tenure of LASU VC.
This House committee constituted to investigate the continued crisis, among others sought an amendment to the relevant laws of tertiary institutions in the state to reflect a single-term for LASU, as is the practice in most tertiary institutions across the country.
The House also called for an urgent stakeholders’ meeting of all segments of the university to discuss the prevailing problems of the university.
Also of great concern to the lawmakers were factors affecting accreditations of courses in the institution and in need of a stakeholders resolutions to advice the governor on ways of achieving enduring solutions to myriad of problems facing the university.
They lamented that the continued crisis had affected the development and standard of education in the institution.
The lawmakers argued that some faculties that had brought honour to the institution are either not improving on the previous standard, losing their accreditation or remain not accredited.
