The Lagos State House of Assembly has set up an eight-man ad-hoc committee to investigate the activities of all forms of illegal dredging, mining and reclamation in the state.
The committee has requested the New Town Development Authority to produce all relevant documents on the reclaimed areas it has worked on.
The documents include Environmental Impact Assessment report, EIA, size reclaimed, survey plan, contractor handling the project and others.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the committee, Abiodun Tobun, made the requests during a meeting with Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, responsible for dredging, mining and reclamation activities in the state.
According to him, “Inspite of the efforts of the Lagos State Government at curtailing the indiscriminate and unauthorized mining, dredging and stockpiling activities in the state, there are still lots of serious contravention of regulatory laws”.
