A group styled The Unity Forum in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa state has expressed worry over recent hate campaigns by some members of the party against aspirants for the Saturday governorship primaries of the party in the state.
Chairman of the forum Mr. Ibaralayoun Theophilus in a press statement in Yenagoa, while condemning the statements of hate credited to some members of the party in the media, particularly those who defected only recently from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC.
The group described the development as “sad and unfortunate.”
The group said that rather than engage in issues based campaigns, that some in the party have resorted to mudslinging of the very people who nurtured the party to bear the fruits they are reaping.
Theophilus regretted that such campaigns of hate will not only give politics a negative image but will also make people lose confidence in the party that professes change , stressing that, it will be a replay of the rancour in the PDP.
He appealed to members of the party to desist from such acts and respect the right of individuals to exercise their democratic rights of participation in the electoral process.
