A political advocacy group, Bayo Ojo Frontiers has thrown its weight behind the nomination of Chief Christopher Adebayo Ojo as ministerial nominee, saying the choice underlines the determination of President Muhammadu Buhari to work with the best hands to fix Nigeria.
Speaking during an interactive session with press men in Lokoja, the spokesman for the group, Comrade Isa Ojonimi said Chief Bayo Ojo is one of the legion of intellectuals that have made Kogi proud over the years.
According to him, the nomination of Bayo Ojo is a declaration of intent by the Buhari administration to field the best Nigerians in its resolve to make the nation rebound its pride and destiny.
“During the Obasanjo Presidency, Chief Adebayo Ojo who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria was instrumental to the repatriation of the billions of dollars stashed in foreign accounts by the families of the military rulers in the jackboot days.
“Today, we need the savvy of a man with such an international reputation in global jurisprudence. In an era when officials of the last administration have been accused of helping themselves to billions of oil money, we need men of integrity, courage and determination to fight corruption.
“As an organization, be believe in the capacity of Bayo Ojo to add value to the Federal Executive Council of the country in our drive to make Nigeria a better place for all Nigerians”.
Also speaking to Vanguard on the nomination of Chief Bayo Ojo for ministerial appointment, a political leader, Mr. Daniel Olowodara said the Okun nation are united behind the consideration of one of them as minister.
In his words: “The entire Okun nation has been in jubilant mood since the appointment was made public. Chief Bayo Ojo is a silent achiever who has impacted positively on the society. This appointment is considered a reward for the diligent service Chief Bayo Ojo has continued to render to humanity and his fatherland”.
Chief Bayo Ojo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria hails from Iffe, Ijumu Local Government Area. He was a Justice Minister under the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and a former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association. He is the Bashorun of Okunland.
…As Equity Collectives kick Against Bayo Ojo’s Nomination
Meanwhile, a group known as Equity Collectives has kicked against the nomination of Bayo Ojo, saying the appointment is a betrayal of people who had worked for the success of APC in Kogi State.
According to a communique issued by the group and made available to newsmen in Lokoka, it was wrong for the President to pick a minister from the same Local Government Area that had produced a Senator and a governorship running mate.
The communique reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the recent nomination of Chief Bayo Ojo as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
” In as much as we can’t fault the capacity to nominate a person of his capacity into such position, we make bold to say that the appointment is bereft of the need for equity in the distribution of political offices in the state. It is unacceptable for Ijumu Local Government Area to produce a Senator, a Deputy Governor and a Minister at the same time.
“Yagba, Kabba/Bunu and Lokoja Local Government Areas have competent hands to man any of the three positions. One of them is the Asiwaju of Okunland who is also a former Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Clarence Olafemi. How can we convince the people of Yagba to work for our party when we deprived them of the chance to produce at least one of the three aforementioned positions?
” We urge the President to do the needful to balance the gaps”.
