As Muslim faithful in Nigeria join the rest of the world to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir, the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has urged Nigerians, especially Muslims, to learn to give and take.

This, he said, would engender selflessness, teamwork, reciprocity, compromises and concessions in the spirit of the season.

A statement by his media aide, Austin Oniyokor, quoted him as saying, “As we celebrate, it is important for us to remember that the essence of Eid-el-Kabir is not the rams that we slaughter, but for us to imbibe the virtues of the Prophet Ibrahim, who offered to sacrifice his only son in total obedience to the almighty Allah’s directive.

“It was Prophet Ibrahim’s selflessness, cooperation, compromise and concession to the will of the almighty Allah that moved Him to provide the ram that was slaughtered as a ransom. Therefore, I would like my brothers and sisters across the faiths to make the necessary sacrifices to sustain our communal spirit and the country’s unity. We need to imbibe the spirit of selflessness, teamwork, reciprocity, compromises and concessions.

“To this end, I urge all faithful not just to give gifts and pay visits during the Sallah, but to also sustain the gestures beyond the
season. That is the way to go in making our communities, country and indeed the world a better place for the haves and have-nots; for as it is said, ‘Blessed is the hand that gives than the hand that takes’. For me, it is a win-win situation since both the givers and the takers are blessed irrespective of the degree.”
