Forty students, made up of 30 boys and 10 girls drawn from the different schools that took part in the 2015 GTBank Principals Cup competition in Ogun and Lagos states yesterday  began a week-long camping at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan.  Camp GTBank is a residential camp designed to train and develop outstanding footballing talents discovered from GTBank sponsored youth football competitions.

The kid footballers were presented before the sporting press in Lagos before their departure to the Oyo State Capital. Some of the outstanding talents to be discovered from the camp would be awarded scholarship to school abroad.

Ex-internationals including Henry Nwosu, Victor Ikpeba, Mutiu Adepoju, Yisa Sofoluwe, Anne Chiejinne, and Waidi Akanni will form the technical think tank.

First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Seyi Akinwumi who was at the media presentation at the Renaissance Hotel commended GTB for the developmental programme and promised that similar competitions would soon be initiated nation wide.

“We are going to be having age-grade tournaments from U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18 across the country. There will be more cohesion in the organisation of the competitions,” Akinwumi said.

He added that “future national team players would have to come from such age-grade competitions. Anyone coming from outside the system must be of exceptional talent.”
