Warri Wolves Football Club on Sunday defeated Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt 1-0 at the Warri Township Stadium in a week 23 fixture of the 2014/2015 Glo Premier League. Defender Azubuike Egwueke scored the match’s lone goal in the 58th minute.
The host had beaten Dolphins 3-1 at the same stadium in a corresponding fixture last season. The Wolves played good football, humbling the Dolphins’ defence often times but failing to score goals.
There were also some fine passes between Wolves strikers Abu Azeez and Kufre Ebong to the admiration of the fans. Dolphins on their part did not relax as they also played defensively.
The introduction of Oghenekaro Etebo and Egbeta Michael from the Wolves’ bench midway into the second half electrified the stadium and changed the game’s tempo. During the post-match interview, the Head Coach of Dolphins, Stanley Eguma, told newsmen the game was a good one.
“I lost so many of my players during the mid-season, and we have had to bring in some new ones. Some of them are now playing for the first time.
“I think that affected our game. All the same I think they can do better in subsequent matches. “Warri Wolves got their chance, and they converted it. But we had ours, and failed to utilise it. “All the same it wasn’t a bad game. We will go back and work harder in our subsequent matches.’’
