The suspect, who was arrested along with three others, Ezeala, the alleged receiver of the stolen vehicles, Ade and Kasali, was alleged to have been a notorious robber who had been on the police wanted list for a long time.

Police sources disclosed that 13 vehicles, including four Toyota Camry, two Volkswagen Vento Salon cars, two Golfs and four Volkswagen buses, were recovered from the suspect.

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described Paul as an unrepentant robber, who had been arrested previously and charged to court over the same offence.

The source explained that the suspect was arrested in 2013 by SARS operatives attached to Lagos State Police Command, adding that four vehicles were recovered from him.

The source said: “He was charged to court at the completion of investigation, but he was granted bail and he returned to crime. Seven months later, he was re-arrested by SARS operatives at Ogun State Police Command and five cars recovered from him. The police in Ogun arraigned him in court; he was remanded at Oba Prison, where he spend about six month and was released in October 2014.”
