Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has urged Nigerian Muslims to exhibit the true spirit of peace and love in their daily dealings with men of all faith, saying Islam as a religion of peace abhors violence in whatever guise.
The Governor who congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the success of this year’s Ramadan urged them to inculcate the lessons learnt during the Ramadan fast to positively impact on their neighbours and the larger society.
In his Eid-el-Fitri message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria, Comrade Oshiomhole said “I rejoice with the Muslim Ummah as it has pleased Almighty Allah to see us through the Holy month of Ramadan.
“Having observed strictly the injunctions of Almighty Allah by self-denial through fasting and prayers and by offering Zakat to the less-privileged, I urge the faithful not to forget the lessons learnt, to wit, the spirit of piety, alms-giving, of compassion and love for fellow men.
“We remember, as always, our country this season and I enjoin the faithful to continue to make supplications to Allah to heal our land of all ills and favour us with peace and progress.
“In Edo, we remain grateful to Almighty Allah as He has continued to bestow on us abundant mercies by bringing us out of the woods in which the state was plunged in the past and for engendering peaceful coexistence among people of different faith.
“I wish the Muslim Ummah happy Eid el-Fitri”.
