Badaru orders removal of typha grass in Jigawa

DUTSE –  Jigawa state Governor, Muhammad Abubakar Badaru has ordered the immediate clearing of  Typha grass along Hadejia River which is causing havoc to the peasant farmers of the area.

”The Typha grass along Hadejia River over the years has been identified as the causes of perennial floods affecting the communities along Hadejia Valley, and is seriously causing blockage of waterways, hampering fishing and harboring dangerous reptiles”  Badaru Abubakar  said.

The governor also ordered the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Authority to provide immediate relief to the effected towns and villages within 24hrs.

Governor Badaru explained that  an Australian firm has been engaged to provide permanent solution to the Typha grass menace using a specialized technology and that when the project is completed, it would address the annual floods and increase agricultural activities and free movement of people and goods along the waterways.

The areas affected by menace include Tasheguwa, Madachi, Marma, Guri and Kirikassama.
