Nigeria Paralympic Committee yesterday began its open championships to select athletes for the forth coming All African Games billed for September in Congo Brazzaville.

Thirty five athletes who will vie for track and fields events will be camped after the exercise holding at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos. Sectary-general of the NPC, Dr. Frank Thorpe stated that Nigeria is in frame to win eight gold medals in the Games.

“From what we have we are sure of winning eight gold medals in track and field. We are also looking to sweep the powerlifting medals table.

“The powerlifters are already in camp in Ibadan,” said Dr Thorpe.

He disclosed that the committee is preparing for the world championships billed for Qatar in October, where Nigerian athletes will pick up qualification points for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
