Lagos—Rising from its first plenary session after inauguration, the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution calling on the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to direct all relevant agencies to sanitize the state of traffic gridlock.

The resolution followed a motion raised by Lanre Ogunyemi, APC Ojo II, stating that road users along Lagos-Badagry expressway and other parts of the state have been undergoing harrowing experiences due to on-going reconstruction on the road.

The lawmaker added that the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, should urgently brace up to carry out palliative measures on the road to ensure that sanity is restored as the rainy season begins in earnest.

“We are all aware of the situation of roads especially during rainy season. Lagos is below sea level and you know the effects of flooding on our roads where we battle with potholes leading to heavy traffic.

”Lagosians spend productive hours in traffic particularly where commercial drivers drive against traffic,” Ogunyemi said.

Also speaking, Bisi Yusuf, APC Alimosho I, who is a co-sponsor of the motion called on all agencies responsible for the implementation of traffic law to go back to the drawing board.

According to him, every segment in the transportation system must adhere to traffic laws, adding that there is so much impunity in the transport system and that drastic measures must be taken to address the situation.

A lawmaker representing Amuwo Odofin 1, PDP, Dipo Olorunrinu in his response called all the people living in Lagos to support government in the fight against traffic gridlock by ensuring complete compliance to the traffic law.

In his contribution, Abiodun Tobun, APC Epe I, noted that some hoodlums in the state have   taken advantage of the traffic situation in the state by unleashing havoc on Lagosians and dispossesing them of their valuables.
