Osogbo—The traditional ruler of Ejigbo in Osun state, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin has appealed to the management of a new generation bank to consider re-opening of its branch in the community which stopped operations about three years ago allegedly due to frequent attacks by armed robbers.
Oba Oyesosin stated that the security situation in the state since the last robbery operation in the town has greatly improved making banking transactions easy for customers.
Briefing newsmen in his palace weekend, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo stated that apart from the internal security arrangement put in place by the community, Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration has further reinforced the security situation in the town with the provision of an Armored Personnel Carrier APC, permanently stationed in the town.
He said that banking operations were not stopped in other places where there were bank robbery, asking why the bank’s management would relocate the Ejigbo branch to Ede town. The monarch also faulted the alleged plans to sell the building that was formally used as a branch of the bank in the town, saying that he had received information that the building the bank used to occupy is being put up for sale.
Oba Oyesosin said the town was against the sale of the property because the land on which the building was cited was never sold to the original occupier. The monarch recalled that Ejigbo community in 1980 gave the land free to the defunct Cooperative Bank to establish its branch.
He subsequently urged the management of the bank to forthwith stop every transaction regarding the land in the overriding interest of Ejigbo, while pleading for it to return to the town, assuring that adequate protection would be guaranteed for their operations.
