ILORIN—The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has commenced a probe into the mysterious death of a youth corps member, Mrs Yetunde Shukra Idowu, who was found dead on a street in Ilorin penultimate Sunday with bruises on her head and other parts of her body.

To this end, the Director-General of NYSC sent a top delegation, led by the Director of Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mr. Michael Ahile, to Kwara State yesterday, to meet the stakeholders on the incident.

The delegation met with the state Director, Department of State Services, the police and the Emir of Ilorin.

They were received at the palace by Mogaji Are, Alhaji Aremu Zubair, who promised that the Emir would act on the issue.

Alhaji Zubair described the incident as unfortunate, stressing that such brutal killing was alien to Ilorin.

The head of delegation, Mr. Ahile, said: “The NYSC management received the news of the death of Miss Yetunde Idowu with a heavy heart, particularly the circumstances surrounding her death.

“So the Director-General of NYSC delegated us to come down to Kwara State to discuss with the security agencies and the traditional institution here to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of this corps member.

“The NYSC places importance on the welfare of corps members and when things like this happen, particularly when they border on death, NYSC does not take it lying low and that is why we are here in Ilorin.

“We are here to see all the security agencies and the traditional institutions that they should use their good offices to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of this corps member.

“Corps members are on national assignment and it is the responsibility of all of us to protect them, particularly the security agencies and the traditional institutions and host communities.

“So we want to condemn, in very strong terms, the death of this corps member and we call  on the security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death and the people behind it.

“NYSC will not tolerate killing of corps member and we call on all the security agencies and the traditional institutions in this state to do everything possible to find out who killed this corps member.”
