Queens College, Yaba and Ansar Ud-Deen Girls College, Itire are the finalists in the Girls category of the Guarantee Trust Bank Masters Cup, Season 4. They will battle for the diadem on a yet to be announced date later this month.
Similarly, in the male category, two foremost secondary institutions in Lagos, St Gregory’s and St Finbar’s college will do battle in the final to determine who takes the trophy. The finalists earned their tickets at the weekend after exciting semi final duels at the Onikan Stadium.
The Masters Cup, formerly known as The Heritage Cup was formed for first generation heritage schools and private schools in Lagos.
Queen’s College Yaba defeated Ansar-UD-Deen Girls High School Isolo 4-0 to book their final berth while Ansar-UD-Deen Girls High School, Itire defeated debutants, Federal Government College, Ijanikin 3-1 in a game that saw both sides scoring in the first 6 minutes.
Fatima Oyebanji opened the score line in the 3rd minutes that FGC replied minutes later through Toyosi Towoju’s free kick.
However, the Ansar UD-Deen Girls dominated the entire match and Fatima got two more goals to complete the domination.
St. Finbarr’s College, Akoka played Jibril Martins Memorial Grammar School, Iponri. St. Finbarr’s were a goal up in the 3rd minute through a penalty converted by Opara Nnadozie. The match ended 1-1 but Finbar’s boys prevailed 4-2 in the ensuing penalty shootout.
Winners will be rewarded with the star prize of N750,000.00, N500,000.00 for the runners up ahile the 3rd placed team will get N350,000.00 in both male and female categories.
