Civil Society Organisations yesterday urged the government, non-governmental organisations, religious groups, charitable and voluntary organisations to invest heavily in providing succour to the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the country.
The organisations, which consist of Foundation for African Cultural Heritage, FACH; Uduimo Itsueli Foundation, UIF and Fertility Care Centre of Africa, FCCA, in partnership with Terra Kulture and the Federation of Muslim Women Association, FOMWA, Ondo State Chapter, made the appeal in Lagos.
They called for the provision of free maternity homes, rehabilitation homes, highly professional counseling services and material needs to alleviate the sufferings of the IDPs.
Dr Nkechi Asogwa, Director, FACH said that tackling the appalling human condition and human deterioration facing the rescued victims and IDPs required collective efforts.
‘’Recently, members of the coalition organised a team of journalists, nurses, social workers and medical personnel to travel to Yola and visit the camps. The coalition gave cash donation, food items, drugs and health care to the IDPs, but these people need more.”
