On why the tournament is coming few days after the official inauguration of the new government on the Democracy Day, the Captain of the Polo Club said “due to our passion for the game of polo and our immense respect for the establishment and growth of democracy in Nigeria, the events are strategically scheduled not to interfere with the plethora of events marking democracy day and the inauguration that ushers in a new government, this will afford time and chance for local and international dignitaries to comfortably attend the historic event which marks the tournament to be hosted by 1212 on its newly constructed polo field.”
He further reviewed that the Club plans to be staging about three events for both Polo and Horseracing each year especially during the Independence celebration and the New year.
The cups to be competed for in the Polo tournament include; President’s cup, Abuja Open cup, Argentine Ambassador’s cup and Patron’s cup while the Horse-racing tournament has Sultan Abubakar 111 cup, Abuja Derby cup and The Queen’s cup.
