All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State has accused the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of playing to the gallery and being disingenuous in his lamentation over the huge debt of N636 billion he inherited from his predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan.

APC’s media adviser, Mr. Martins Mukoro, in a statement, expressed shock over Okowa’s utterances over a rot he was allegedly part of.

His words: “For eight years, Okowa was a commissioner in the James Ibori Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government and became Secretary to the State Government from 2007 in the Uduaghan’s administration. He only left for the Senate in 2011. Is he saying he was not aware of the huge debt profile in the 11 years he was in the Delta State Government or was the debt accumulated after he left for the Senate?”

He said Okowa was only preparing the minds of Deltans to excuse further borrowing as he has already secured the approval of the state House of Assembly to borrow N10 billion, thus plunging the state into more debt.

Mukoro said Okowa was part of the rot and has nothing to offer Deltans. He challenged the governor to institute a panel to probe the huge debt overhang in order to unearth how it was accumulated and the beneficiaries.

“Until then, Okowa cannot pull a wool over our eyes.”

He urged Deltans to use the opportunity of the impending re-run which he believes the tribunal will order, to vote the APC to power and enjoy change.
