Delayed elections affected hospitality industry

BY CHRIS ONUOHA
A hospitality expert has revealed that the postponement of the just concluded general election in the country has had adverse effect on the hospitality industry and the nation’s economy.

Making this known during a cocktail organized for her esteemed customers and guests recently, the General Manager, Golden Tulip Hotels and Conference Center, Festac, Mercel Andeweg said the delayed elections affected hotel business, as numbers of foreign visitors, tourists and business investors coming to Nigeria within the period were reduced.

Mercel Andeweg, a seasoned hotelier who resumed duty as Golden Tulip’s General Manager barely five months ago said that the first quarter of each year was usually one of the peak periods in hospitality business, when companies and organizations hold various events but the extended electioneering season inadvertently affected the industry.

But he was optimistic that the rest quarter of the year look promising as the new administration will quickly settle down and optimize opportunities for smooth and hitch free business in the country.

He said, “There’s no better way to get the public know about us than to invite our respected distinguished clients to come and have one on one chat like this and we are using the platform as a high networking forum where the top management team of the hotel engaged in a ‘meet and greet’ with guests.”
