Blessing Okagbare has received the backing of home-based athletes in her opposition to AFN’s recruitment of foreign athletes.

The African double sprint champion had voiced her opinion to the exercise, which she said was detrimental to the development of local talents.

Speaking on the issue Thursday, Ogho-Oghene Egwero stated that Okagbare has the support of all the home-based athletes, adding that the Athletics Federation of Nigeria had rather heed her advise.

“Blessing is quite comfortable ordinarily, she could have kept quiet. But she owes it to all Nigerian athletes who are struggling to make a mark. In her heart she is not happy being the only Nigerian athlete who is making world standard performance.

“There are athletes here who only need motivation and little funding. But it is not forth coming. Ask Divine Oduduru and other up and coming athletes, it is still the same old story of frustration,”said Egwero one of Nigeria’s best male sprinters.
