NSCDC ex-officials protest delayed entitlements

By Ola Ajayi

IBADAN — RETIREES of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, yesterday, protested to the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku to register their displeasure with the Federal Government over alleged injustice by the leadership of the agency.

The pioneer ex-staff of NSCDC, who sent a Save-Our-Soul to the Federal Government claimed that over 20 of their colleagues had died as a result of unpaid entitlements.

Led by Mr. Lateef Yussuf, the retirees described as painful the way they were neglected despite joining the scheme at tender ages and spending all their productive years in service.

He said: “If the authorities concerned could immediately come to their aid by paying them their backlog arrears of benefits alongside other entitlements, while their service lasted, they might have not died.

“Despite all our efforts during elections and monthly environmental sanitation for years, the Federal Government neglected us. We want government to employ some of us who are still strong enough to work while some of us that are ageing should be paid off.”
