OSOGBO—Resident doctors at Ladoke Akintola University, Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, yesterday staged a peaceful protest at the premises of State Assembly, Gbongan Road, Osogbo against non-payment of their six months salary by Osun state government.
The protesting doctors, who told journalists that living had become difficult in the last six months owing to the situation, carried placards with different inscriptions, demanding immediate payment of their salaries and for duration of the protest, prevented vehicular movement in and out of the assembly complex.
Speaking with newsmen, President, Association of Resident Doctors. Lautech chapter, Dr Olalekan Ajayi, said the situation non payment of their salaries has put them was devastating. He noted that workers in the state, including the doctors were suffering, despite their commitment to duties and compassion for patients.
He therefore called on the state government to pay the outstanding salaries to safe their families from further starvation and in the interest of industrial harmony.
Addressing the protesters, the Deputy Speaker, Osun state House of Assembly, Mr. Akintunde Adegboye, appealed to them to exercise patience with government, assuring that steps are being taken to address the issue. According to him, the assembly would direct the House Committee on Health to dialogue with the members of the association to fashion out ways of resolving the issue.
